Well, there is a possibility that a seal or seals have hardened and won't expand enough until warm In the meantime, fluid goes around.
Have you changed fluid recently? If not, would probably be a good idea, and I'd use synthetic ATF (Amsoil is in mine). You might also add a can of BG Transmission additive, or TransMedic.
