Folks,
I've been looking for a turbo 4dr for about 6 months now and I finally found one locally (tucson,az). I want to replace/suppliment my current '88 base 4dr. Which in hind sight seems clean and tight compared......
Observations:
For sale at the local Triumph/MG 'dealer' - ask $1950, got my attention!
1989 900 Turbo, 4dr, 5sp, 'grey', 192k on odometer
No fluids on the ground
Clean paint, half dozen dings on windshield, good tires, bumper paint faded, seats really good, CD, not originally from AZ.
Sunroof opens/close, did not look like it leaks, Headliner was not falling down, Dash complete and not peeling
Started car:
valve noise, toward front of car, disappeared after test drive
raised idle with hood open. Could not detect odd noises from Turbo.
Heard an audible buzz off idle....assume normal for turbo/16v
Solid idle, loud exhaust, hole somewhere south of fire wall.
AC worked, did not effect idle, no extra noises.
Test drive:
Clutch nice and tight, did not slip, release lower 1/4 of travel.
Lots of motion from motor/tranny with shift, bad mount????
No noise from drive train at speed 3rd/4th/5th gear
Pulls strong, no slip
No CV/Tripod noises, turning with power
Brakes solid, no odd noises
Lots of noise from dash, overall more chassis noise, etc.
Turbo:
Was able to get mid-yellow easy all the time.
I was able to get top of yellow once, never red.
Can I assume getting more than base boost?
So, it is what it is I guess. For $50 I am having the local indie
SAAB guy go over it. All this just to determine how low of an offer
I can get away with!
