the n/a engines do have a "trumpet" flare that isn't connected to the car body. it's connected on the back side of the filter housing and opens up towards the hood. as far as air ram, you can modify it a little. pull off the trumpet. cut the intake bellows at the first 45 degree angle off the throttle body. reconnect the amm so it points to the driver's side headlight. unhook the filter housing from the fender and turn it by unclipping the top and reclipping after turned. point the opening out under the driver's side headlight. need to make a bracket or two to remount fliter housing as it won't attach back to the fender this way. or you could suspend it with zip ties temporarily. i did this mod and it does make a difference. especially when you get moving, there is a little quicker response, nothing spectacular though. i stopped there because i started building a turbo engine for the car. but, i did notice that the intercooler baffles that force air flow through the ic in the turbo cars, can be mounted in the n/a, if you use this intake set up, and should be able to force more air into the filter housing opening (more like a ram). could also use black plastic trash can, cut and mount to build ram. just a few thoughts.
