I also have a 90 900S. Sorry, can't help with the latch not working. I have seen these type hatch releases freeze. Can you put it in a warm place & see if it fixes itself?
Second, 92 octane will not make any more horsepower in our NA cars. This myth is perpertuated by the evil Oil companies who want you to pay the premium price thinking it will increase performance. In fact the only engines which make more power with high octane (NA engines) are the ones which have be detuned (less ignition timing) for a lower grade of octane, which the high octane will allow you to increase the timing for more power without pinging or knocking. If your car does not ping now, high octane will not help it. Increased octane levels will reduce the chances of gasoline self-igniting, which can occur in high compression engines with hot spots in the combustion chambers.
You should run fine on 87 or 89 octane.
