How long should a set of NGK BCP 5EV Plugs last?

Every year when I service my 1990 900 16v I change all the ignition components. Plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap and plug leads and air filter. I change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. I figure that if I change these components regularly they will pre-empt ignition failure or any decrease in performance and fuel economy. The parts total about the same price as a tank of fuel so they are not too expensive.

I only do around 10-12000 miles per year. The plugs are always in good condition and I wonder if I am replacing them unnecessarily. I was recently supplied with a set of Bosch FR7DP plugs which I was assured would be compatible with my engine. Does anyone have any experience with them?

The engine oil in the car virtually from new has been replaced every 3000 miles, and when I bought the car at 100 000 miles it was spotlessly clean. When I saw that I could hardly believe it. It was probably the single thing which most impressed me about the engine. The odometer is kicking 140 000 miles now and it is still the same. Is this common? My folks have a 1975 Rolls Royce Corniche with around 60 000 miles on the clock and it's oil too is is virtually clear. Its reassuring to know that Swedish engineering is as good as Rolls Royce.
