Hello Jason. I am also a recent convert to the Saab side. I've owned VW's mostly. I owned two jetta's, a scirocco and a golf GTi. I bought the Saab about four months ago. It's an 89 900 sedan 4dr. There are two basic body styles for the 900 series in this year range. There is the sedan and the hatchback. The sedan usually comes with 4drs and the hatchback comes with two. Then there is the SPG model which is a sporty hatchback with nice wheels and more horsepower. So your first step is to decide which type you like. And since you've taken a liking to Saabs then you must already have an idea which you like.

You should look out for the basics like overall condition, body, interior etc. Ask how much work has been done to it. The more parts that have been already replaced the better. I've heard that the transmission is an item you should spend some time checking well. I recomend looking for one with a 16v engine. And if you opt fot the turbo then check whether or not your burning oil (a sign of a bad turbo). Ask about the wheel bearings (redone or not).
