I also have a red 900t (1987) with , at the time, 114k miles on it and really bad looking dino oil (when I first got the car). I switched to Castrol Syntec as a cheap experiment prior to using Redline Synthetic. I had already fixed a bad front main seal and oil sending unit leak. When I switched to Castrol Syntec I promptly got a valve cover gasket leak onto the exhaust pipe (and a really obnoxious smell). I put in a new valve cover gasket (the old one was really shot) and I have not had a leak since. I think if you have bad seals anywhere, Syntec or other synthetics will find it because they dissolve sludge over time (very little time, in my experience). The sludge plugs the leak. Hard to say that is a bad thing, though. Expensive if all the seals were to go at once, I imagine.
I used the 10w-30 - it has the least additives in it.
