I hate those #@*ing silver bumper trim strips (bit of a rant)

This is the fifth Saab I have had, and in each one those crappy silver bumper trim strips have broken and come off. In the 1982 900 base 3 door, it was a thin silver stipe that just disappeared one day. On the 1980 900 GLE 5 door (God, that was my favorite one!) which I bought used, the strips were already missing. While parking the 1983 900 base 4 door and gently tapping the car behind, the strip snapped. I tried gluing the thing but finally just yanked it off. The 1988 900 base 3 door is missing the rear strip and just the passenger side of the front strip. Now my 1993 900SC has its strips finally intact after replacing the rear bumper.

But what is it with Saab bumpers?! I rarely see a classic 900 with all of the bumper strips intact. It seems like a design flaw that was never fixed, and even carried over into the 1987 makeover.

Now please do not get me started on the fog lights--after keeping mine crack free and straight for all of this time, just this week I managed to bend the passenger one back, and in a separate incident, crack the lense on the driver's side.
