~1991 2.1L 16-valve~
What this the metal piece in the line of the top radiator hose? It has wire(s) connected. If you are standing on the pass. side it is almost directly over the battery. Last time I had my car to my mechanic he said that it needed to be replaced since it has begun to corrode.

Can I just clean it very well with some cleaners, and reinstall? Or do I need to purchase a new one?
