John - thanks for the detailed information - I'm sure you've saved me 10 hours already. I'll follow your instructions. Would you consider purchasing that SAAB special tool for removing bushings (would that allow them to be done on the car?), or does a big C-clamp work just as well?
I know what you mean about doing the work yourself versus having it done. It's so nice and easy to take it to a good repair shop, but it gives me a sense of failure, espeically when they get it done faster than they estimated. I paid someone $350 to remove and replace 3 broken exhaust manifold bolts from the engine block and replace some gaskets. They had estimated $450, but said it was a lot easier than they planned for. I was glad to pay $100 less, but felt in hindsight that I could have done it myself.
