I have now owned four 900 converts:
1989 Convert, history is much the same as any other 89 900. Transmission is the biggie. Any hesitation to shift into 2nd on the automatics and any whine in the higher gears in the manuals and I would walk. Figure$2000 to fix trans.
Anything that separates the conv from the regular 900 is pretty durable although the top cylinders and pump can get really expensive they are pretty reliable.
If the car has the factory tonneau cover[3 plastic pieces] in the bag it is a plus. Many of us don't really care for the look of the cover but even if you don't like it you can sell it here pretty easily for a couple of hundred[something like $900.00 new]
Have it looked over at a good Saab shop BEFORE you take the plunge and you should be AOK
