I have an '88 SPG. Last week, I discovered that (despite the fact I "assumed" the plugs were new because they "looked" brand new when I popped the valve cover plate off, when I checked last month), I actually cheated myself by not being thorough enough to actually pull the plugs to inspect them. Sure enough, when I did pull them, the electrode was badly worn on one side and you could drive a Honda through the gap (if you cared to!). New plugs indeed eliminated the "hiccup" and stumbling I complained about a while back. Today, I decided I'd tackle the infamous problems of deceleration stalling, hunting idle, etc. Near as I could tell, the problems seamed to stem from a basic idle setting. I followed the procedure in FAQ and sure enough, when I grounded the test wire, she stalled right out. After I finished, I reset the timing because it was off. The idle is very smooth and regular now, but here are my questions;

1) I placed the jumper wire for the throttle switch wiring harness across the middle terminal and the one toward the cabin. Was that correct? I couldn't find a #1 that is referred to in FAQ.
2) The throttle switch adjustment was a b___tch, due to the fact that I had a lot of trouble with those 2 7mm bolts. I hooked up the ohm meter and lo and behold when you hear the click, you complete the circuit. Is THAT right? If so, why do you even need the ohm meter if you can hear the click? And what's the other switch on the fender side of the throttle?
3) When all's said and done the throttle adjustment screw is practically "bottomed" even with the surface level of the 8mm locknut. It's not like that on my other 2 SAABs which leads me to believe there's another problem somewhere although nothing I can detect at the moment.

Hope this wasn't too long. BTW, what kind of portable Tachs is everyone using?
