Donating my car to the American Cancer Society....

1987 900s 226k 5-speed Non-turbo.
After my tranny expelled a fair amount of metal on the last tranny oil change, I decided a change was in order. I explored all options that would allow me to keep my car; rebuild it myself, have a rebuilt installed, wrecking yard tranny. Considering the amount of mileage on my car, I reluctantly decided that it was time to move on. I'm in California, so in order for me to sell the car, I must first smog it. It didn't pass. Incredibly, the Nazis that run the smog program here in california lowered the acceptable "Nox" amounts from 2002 ppm to 1052 ppm since my last smog test in 1999. More incredibly, is that my car, which has over 40K more now than back in 1999, emits less "Nox" now than back in 1999, the last smog test. Because the "Nox" limitations were nearly cut in half, 1052 ppm from 2002 ppm, my car did not pass. Back in 1999, my car blew a 1923 ppm on the "Nox". Now it blows 1805 ppm, well above the new limits. The smog tech suggested that I may need a new catalytic converter. Anyways, I decided not to spend any more money on my car. I chose to donate it the American Cancer Society. They will pick it up in about a week. Thanks to all on this board. It's been a great ride over the last six years. Out.
