But on the other hand, many of the kids working in auto parts stores may not know much more than you do.
1. Be sure you have the proper tools -- correct size box wrenches for the clamps (which may vary from your car to another's) and a tool for cleaning the clamps inside.
2. To avoid sparks, explosions, and acid baths, not to mention blown diodes in alternators and ECU computers, be sure always to remove the negative cable first, so that you can't accidentally complete a circuit with the other end of your wrench while loosening the positive terminal. Then always reconnect the negative cable LAST, for the same reason.
3. The battery hold down device should be snug, but not so tight that there's a risk of cracking the battery case in changing temperatures, etc.
