Shared platforms:
The LS and the S-Type share the same platform, with V6 and V8 + RWD configurations. Engine is longitudinal.
The Mondeo/Contour and the upcoming X-Type share the same platform, with V6 + FWD or AWD configurations. Engine is transverse.
The Taurus/Sable are, of course, on the same platform dating back to '95 or something like that. While the V6 of all three platforms is essentially the same (the 2.x/3.x litre Duratec V6) the rest of the cars are very different.
