or did they only produce the test models in that year? I have an issue of Saab Soundings (Picked it up from the dealer when we bought the '84 900S) from April of 1984 that details the 16v turbo in a three page article. "16 Valves - New turbocharged twin-cam engine with four valves per cylinder delivers more power on less fuel"

It also says...."This summer and Fall 60 Saabs powered by the new engine began "real world" testing in the U.S. and Europe. "The cars are being used by everyday motorists for everyday driving," Gillbrandt explains. "A field test of this type offers the best means for testing a new product. When the testing is completed we will decide on the time schedule for regular production."

In the forward by the President of Saab Scania of America, Inc., Robert Sinclair writes "To say we are proud of the 16-valve Turbo is really an understatement. While most car companies are still trying to perfect their first turbocharged automobiles Saab has already been selling its second generation Turbo, the APC (Automatic Performance Control) version, for well over a year and now we are almost ready to start selling the third generation Turbo: the 16-valve version."

My question is did they produce the '84 model 16V turbo in May or June sometime for the 1984 retail market? This seems incredibly unlikely as my '85 model Turbo rolled off the assembly line on the 3rd of July and the sequential number was already 22203. What I'm suggesting is that the '84 model 16V Turbo that several people have may have been some of the 60 test models that were mentioned in the article? Just curious?
