I just replaced mine. Before removing it first I would try spraying some wd40 between the lock cylinder and "hole" it fits into in the shifter/ignition assembly to see if it clears up that funny feeling. It could just be gunked up.
I replaced mine without removing it from the car. What I did was removed the driver's seat and then loosened the three triangular nuts with a pair of needle nose pliers and a lot of force (not reccomended; the bolts were on with locktite so I ended up breaking the pliers. Others have modified a 11mm? socket to remove the bolts). I then rotated the whole assembly on its side just enough to get access to the hole on the bottom of the assembly that allows you to push in the lock cylinder retaining pin with heavy gage wire (see bently). I had to use a mirror to see the hole. It was a real PITA. I reccomend just drilling through the side of the assembly to gain acces to the retaining pin. I belive Bently describes where to drill the hole.
By the way this was the second time I had to replace the switch. the first time I had an independent mech do it but it cost about $400 because of all the labor.
