Agreed - Murphy's Law says take only basics 'cause you'll never predict what you'll need anyway! :o)

Basic tools: every shape driver, then metric box wrenches and sockets. Parts: spare for all fluids, isopropyl alcohol (for watery gas), spare wipers (snow and rain), glass cleaner & windex (bug storms in middle of nowhere, at night = no fun), all old parts from last tune-up.

This has gotten me through a few scrapes. Fortunately, was within walking distance of a parts store for blown top rad hose. Bad gas (half water, half gas, I think!) fouled the whole sys on a road trip (raining). Loaded her with inj cleaner w/ little improv. Grabbed some off brand crap from the nearest shop, stopped at a farm I knew near by (freak coincidence) and changed plugs, filter in a barn amidst a fleet of muddy green John Deer implements; the picture was priceless, I was grateful.
