I know exactly what you are talking about Ian W. I have a 1989 900T, and my buddy also has a 1989 900T that do exactly the same thing. If you are on the gas a little bit and then you suddenly take your foot off you get a pretty good buck that sorta dampens out after a couple of times. Same goes for when you are decelerating and then you punch it. We just replaced the engine mounts in my friends car and it didn't affect it. I have gotten in the habit of pushing in the clutch any time I might be going from accelerating to decelerating or vice versa. Like you said, not severe but very annoying. I do like your description of the engine having to catch up with the rest of the car. The only theory I have is that it might be suspension related. Maybe the springs load and unload, that would account for the oscillation dampening that I feel. I have original shocks in my car with 140K on them, but my friend has KYB adjustables in his car. Let me know if you figure this one out.
