The ID of the vacuum hose doesn't matter in the short-term as long you get a good seal between the hose and the vacuum nipple.
If you plan on changing the vacuum hoses in, say, 5 or so years, then rubber hose is OK. But rubber hose tends to get brittle, shrink, and crack in almost undetectable places. That's the downside of rubber vacuum hose.
Silicone hose will remain pliable for a long time. You can get it from hosetechniques.com, Saabsavior, a bunch of other sponsors or, if you don't mind being out-of-place in a SAAB, a speed shop like NOPI. (I was definitely a stranger in a strange land when I drove up to a NOPI in my SPG and got 25 feet of silicone vacuum hose a year or so ago. $1 a foot. And your choice of garish colors.)
