Hi Louis,

Could be a good deal, or a piece of junk...ya won't know until you get some info about the car. Who's selling the car, dealer or owner? How many owners has the car had? Are there maintenance records available for your inspection? Who did the turbo install? The fact the turbo was replaced would raise a red flag with me, personally. Did the previous owner(s) follow religious 30 second cooldown regime and 3,000 mile oil change intervals? If not, what else was not being maintained? To check the condition of the tranny, take the car out for a drive. Back off the throttle in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. Do you hear any whining noises, or does it pop out of gear? Those are signs the pinion gear is shot. The trannys in these cars are not up to the abuse the turbo can put on them if they're driven like a drag racer. The trannys are the weak link in the 900. The trick to buying a used Saab is getting one that was properly taken care of from day one. If you have no way of telling this, it's better to walk away from it. If you think it's a good car, you should take it to a good Saab mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection.

Good luck, hope it works out for you. $1,800 is a good price, but only if the car is sound.

Cheers,
Dan
