familiar with those books as well as the Milliken bible. Bump steer and roll steer are different ways of looking at the same phenomenon. As the suspension deflects, the wheel steers with no external steering input. The way I see it is that when the car is lowered, it exactly like the car is riding an infinite bump which keeps the springs compressed (assuming that stock is the origin). If the bump steer is good, it is good even lowered with a double wishbone susp (within reason). BMW's and Saab C900's seem to have gotten it right, though I have not yet neasured it. Most pass. cars have terrible bump steer behavior (mustangs, just about any mcpherson strut, etc). Lowering makes it worse, that is why we hear about it a lot now. There are a bunch of people 'slammin' their hondas, etc and the bump steer is so bad that the car is a handful to drive. My experience with bump steer is that you notice the lack of it. Enter a turn (sweeper like an entrance cloverleaf) in a C900 and it requires very little correction to maintain the radius you selected. With bump steer problems, as the car takes a set, you have to correct to maintain the radius. Try it in a Honda or Mazda, you will be surprised what it takes. It is effortless in a C900. On another note, the passive rear, HICAS steer used by nissan is exactly roll (bump) steer oriented to HELP turn the car. It makes a transverse front engined car (McPh Strut) FEEL more nimble. Of course, I have not heard much about it lately... $0.50 (inflation)
