Not at all, I changed the 2 condenser since mine was not working when I bought the car. I did notice also that the pin # 11(red wire for an 1988) on my connector was lower then the others, so I opened the connector and with a screw driver raise the metal contact and since the clock is working just fine.
It is not the needle that needs to be removed , but the solder part in the back of the clock mechanism; afterwards all was easy to finish and now since I don't wear a watch, can enjoy my little clock.
