I want to get the opinion of other enthusiasts about a peculiar noise my 86' 900T is making. When moving, it makes a growling, sort of rubbing/grinding noise coming from the front somewhere. It doesn't seem to make it at snail pace speeds, ie. barely moving, and it doesn't seem to make it when turning left. Turning right seems to make it louder or more pronounced, and when I go over a serious bump such that the weight of the car is lifted from the wheels it seems to fade or stop.

I thought at first it might be tire rub as I had a set of lower springs installed not to long ago and they should be settled by now, but after inspecting the tires there appears to be no rub of any kind. I have seen other posts describe somewhat similar symptoms and everyone seems to think that it is wheel bearings. I have had one mechanic who was doing some other work on it tell me he thought it sounded like...Transmission!! problems.

Could it just be the wheel bearings, possibly CV joints/Inner Drives, or is the mech right and I am looking at a hefty bill to take care of a more serious problem with the trans?
