I have an '86 900T, also. I was in a rush to a black-tie affair and
put in 87 octane by mistake. I immediately got on the highway and
by the time I got to the next exit (2 miles), the car died. It took
several tanks of 93 octane, booster and fuel injector cleaner to get
the car back to the pre-mistake level. It did cure the high idle problem
I had earlier, though. Around here there is only a ten-cent difference
between 89 and 93. It is up to what you are comfortable with paying. My
"Betsy" is a daily driver and I can go a week+ before I have to go back,
she blows by much younger cars.
