Kooch, I followed the directions from Brad Schaffner (brad@kcsaab.com) on my 89 spg.
The modification is to relocate the rear axle forward, 0.40"
I removed the front two bolts holding the aluminum pivot from the car body, removed the cross bolt from the pivot thru the lower arm & sway bar.
The pivots are reinstalled in reverse orientation from removal, this relocates the cross bolt hole forward 0.25". I elongated the bolt holes on the aluminum pivots on a milling machine, 0.15", this gives a total of 0.40" or 4/10ths of an inch.
I removed the trailing links, cut them, and welded in a section (from an additional link removed from a parts car) 4/10ths of an inch long.
NOTE: I ended up using a lower arm and pivot from a parts car because I could not remove the cross bolt from the original lower arm. The cross bolt was rusted to the rubber bushing inside the aluminum pivot. I do NOT recommend using a cutting torch on these parts: aluminum, rubber and steel.
I am very happy with the results. The wheel looks like it is where it should have been originally, "centered" in the wheel opening.
Good luck,
Jon
BTW, this is from memory, the dimensions may be reversed: 0.15" and 0.25" milling vs. reverse direction.
