John;
I drained the reservoir and pumped out the old fluid per Bentley before installing the "new" rack, but I did not flush the system whatsoever. Thanks for the suggestion of reverse flushing - I'll try it. What is beneficial about the reverse pumping method versus the standard method? I'd assume that the reversed flow might help dislodge trapped/stuck particles? The pump is certainly pumping fluid around. The new fluid became very dark after 1-2 minutes of running the car, so it certainly needs flushing.
The u-joint moved freely, and was able to guide it onto the new shaft quite easily - I don't think it's jammed but maybe I should check it anyway. I disconnected/reconnected it from under the car but read later that this joint is accessible from the inside - that would make it easier to check.
Thanks;
Charles
