Here's a good one. The A/C in my 86 900T died. took it to the local Saab Dealer. Got a call that it would be $1200 for a new compresser. But the mech said two things that made me suspicious. "The freon is leaking out as fast as we put it in" and "The compresser doesn't run" Well I know first of all you don't leak check by dumping freon in, you pull vacumm and see if it holds. Secondly, of course the compresser doesn't run. With no pressure in the system the low pressure switch wont let the compresser run.
I bought the o-rings that go on the end of the hoses, replaced these. My buddy who is a licenbsed A/C mech bought the R-12 and put it in. That was three years ago. No leaks and the A/C still runs great. Total cost of $80 for the o-rings and the R-12.
Be careful out there.
