My guess is that the tech did not replace the supply line elbow with the updated elbow that has a check valve. Your old pump probably had the check valve built into the pump and the replacement pump does not have this valve. Some techs "overlook" this step because it involves real work or they just don't know. Anyway, the valve elbow needs to be pressed in to the hard plastic fuel line with a special tool. It takes more time to do this than to do the rest of the pump replacement job. I'd go back to the shop and ask a few questions.

To check fuel presure with a garden variety tester, make a Shrader valve adapter out of a spare fuel injection rail banjo bolt. Credit for this tester adapter idea goes to Jim Moncrief at Sobstory.
Get a 1/4" NPT threaded adapter with a barbed fuel line hose nipple on the non-threaded end. Drill a hole in the center of the head of the banjo bolt and tap the hole with 1/4" NPT threads. Screw the adapter into the head of the banjo bolt and seal with teflon tape. I forget the exact size of the hole to drill, but a good hardware store that sells thread taps will have a drill/thread size chart. Attach a short piece of fuel line hose to the nipple and clamp. Insert a Shrader valve male to male adapter into the other end of the hose and clamp. Replace either fuel rail banjo bolt with your adapter and hook up the el cheapo pressure gauge and your all set and have saved >$100. If fuel pressure drops within 10 minutes of stopping engine, chances are the check valve is missing or clogged. Bentley manual has step by step troubleshoot. You could also have leaking injectors or a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator, but since the problem started when you replaced the pump, the missing check valve is suspected.
