Turbo/Exhaust gaskets

From having replaced a cracked exhaust manifold months ago, plus a complete exhaust system overhaul recently, I've had the turbo elbow (which connects to the down pipe) on and off several times. What I've notice after reassembling is that it will leak exhaust gases along the joining surfaces. I can feel it "puffing" slightly when I place my hand or fingers near the seams. I can also smell the fumes. This is most noticable during a cold start. Yes, the nuts are tightened properly, yes the surfaces are clean. I haven't checked it when it's hot, mostly because it's too HOT to put my hand close enough to the metal. I'm wagering that when hot, the expanded metal does close whatever gaps there are between the metal surfaces and the leaking subsides. But what about while the engine is running at any reasonable driving RPM? And if the elbow leaks, what about the wastegate assembly which bolts on directly to the turbo unit? So I'm thinking about gaskets of some sort. Anyone know of any such gaskets for the turbo elbow and wastegate? I'm guessing the material used would have to be rather thin. Any DIY insights?
