More in my exhaust saga: My header pipe and muffler have been replaced to my satisfaction by my trusted but non-Saab specialist mechanic.($300)

Obviously they had to pull the O2 sensor to replace the header pipe. Check engine light is on. The tech said - light should go off after awhile. How long should I give for this to happen before I start to wonder?

ALSO - They also used grease to hold the gasket in place while they mounted the header pipe and bolted on - this grease obviously gets hot and burns off (when I first saw I freaked, though the car was on fire til I knew what it was). Would the smoke from this grease light off the check engine light, as it is certainly going past the O2 sensor?

NOTE - never had a check engine light on this car other than for a day after I drove it through a really deep puddle - over the last several days with this ongoing header pipe/muffler work it would go on and off - now with the new system fully installed (granted only a drive home and a drive to work) it stays on.

Thoughts?
