Excuse this repost but I need some help.

OK, any help here would be greatly appreciated. I don't think this will be too hard, and I got everything working again here but I don't want to cause any damage to my car. I have a 1990 900SPG, AC was working great then stopped. Checked the fuse box. Blew the cooling fan fuse. This shuts off the AC. Replaced the fuse(#25(30A)). But the fuse blew again and the AC shut off. Fuse kept blowing. Took it to my mechanic, who said simply that the fan was bad and I needed a new one. But I thought it was probably just a short. I've got wires to driving lights that I dont have any more, so I kept the hot wire connected and hooked the ground wire up to the drivin light ground. Tried again and still blew the fuse. This made me think that the short isn't in the ground. Then I hooked both the hot wire and the ground into the driving light connectors and bingo. The fan works, AC works. Is this a bad idea? I don't have any driving lights, so I don't care about that. But the fuse for the drvng lights is a 15, So, I replaced that with a 30 since I know I got it hooked up to the fan. Is this bad? Everything is working so I'm happy, but I don't want to screw anything up. Also, I thought the AC fan was the one on the passenger side, this is the one I've been talking about. But when I turn on the AC, the Driver side fan is the one that turns on, is that right? The engine themostat in the car runs cool, is that all I have to worry about? Basically, if I keep an eye on the temperture and it stays cool, can I just keep the Ac running the way I've got it hooked up? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
