hey guys, thanks again for all your previous responses, but I now face another problem. Right now I have neither the time, tools, or ability to take a look at the tranny myself. So my only option is to take it to a mechanic. However, will this be a time consuming job, will he need to take apart the tranny, etc. and therefore become expensive? Will I be put in the position of "oh the tranny's apart, you might as well have me rebuild it, etc."? So, my question is should I go through all this trouble, or should I just assume the worst and try to sell the car without spending anymore money on it? Is the fact that the tranny locked up when reversing an almost definite sign that the pinion bearing is going? Could it just be a fluke? Should I even attempt to take the car out and see if it happens again? Finally, if the tranny is in fact about to go, how much do you think I could get for the car. It's an '85 900t 4-door by the way. TIA
dunstan
