After the top is washed, I allow it to dry and then spray 3M's Scotchguard on the top with over-lapping strokes. I use several garbage bags to cover the windshield, side windows, and the back window and tuck it into the spoiler so that only the top gets and coverage. Open the top slightly and drape the bags over the glass, then closed the top without clamping it. It takes hours to dry, so, I do it overnight in a garage. If you don't have a garage, make sure that you spray it on a calm (non-windy) day. I do this 2 or 3 times each year. The water beads up like a waxed surface. By the way, my top is black; if yours is tan, the rate of absorbtion may be noticable when dry.
