funny (not as in ha-ha) steering - left turns

When making left turns at road speeds (30mph and above), my 1985 900t feels as if the right front wheel folds under a bit. Sensation is that the car seems to drop lower in the front while making the turn. Reaction is to slow down before turning left. Right turns are solid.
Recent post here makes me wonder if ball joint(s) are worn out. Car has 283k miles on it and to my knowledge these have never been replaced. Runs great otherwise though!
Any help on diagnosing this will be greatly appreciated.
