Im not sure about Germany, but in Italy its not a bad idea to bring the car over and maintain your Florida registration... the taxes in europe are much higher, as are registration costs. If your staying for a few years its probably not a bad idea to bring the car with you. However, I think that in the EU an american can buy a car there and drive it for 1 year without paying VAT. A neighbor of mine in Rome had a 900s with new york tags on it. He just needed to get a permit from the italian authorities, no need for any alterations. If you are staying there permanently, its probably better to buy a car there, as Im sure selling the saab and or registering it in Germany could be a real hassle. If your staying for a few years its probably not a bad idea, and if your only there for 1 year its better to buy a used car in germany. Im not sure if this helps much, especially as Im not familiar with German laws.
