blown (I mean blown!) front hose.....

Hi all,

I have an 88 900 turbo, which normally runs about halfway up the temp gauge. This afternoon I noticed the needle about three quarters up, and looked under the bonnet..The expansion tank was fine, and no sign of a leak anywhere. Later on, when I was driving, the needle hit the red, and just as I pulled over, a loud BOOF! and clouds of steam from under the bonnet.

On inspection, the little right angled hose which comes out the front of the head had completely ripped apart, and all the coolant was lost...

Is this just a hose failure, or did the thermostat stick shut? Is the head likely cracked or warped?
