hard to get to with the engine in the car. You need a spring compressor to change the uppers anyhow. The biggest clunking over bumps is from the lower ball joints because they are exposed more to the elements and wear out first. Replacing all four is a good idea if it's all apart, but not always necessary. Watch out for them lower ball joint bolts cause they tend to rust inside the ball joint holes and sometimes don't come loose without a heat wrench. Be sure to never seize the shanks of the bolts when you put them back in for this will save you headaches down the road.
