I cannot believe my friggin car. It's a black '88 SPG and I'm just about ready to send it over a cliff. $2500 worth of repairs last week (including rebuilt '93 trans., a custom made (probably not worth it) racing clutch, new front motor mount, new crank pulley (which is being replaced again tomorrow -- if I can get the car there) and gear shift lever) and there is still plenty of other stuff wrong with it. I have to say that I was very, very lucky cuz I didn't pay most of that $2,500, but the car still swallowed up a huge chunck of money in repairs. I've got a sick amount of money in this thing on top of last weeks repairs and right now it the car seems pretty unappreciative. Crank pulley is squealing (like I said it is going to be fixed, so I'm not concerned about that), I'm getting some type of ridiculous groaning noise that seems to occur whenever it feels like it and not under any specific set of circumstances (other than the car is running) and tonight when I stopped at the the supermarket to get some cereal and milk, leaving my sleepy wife to relax in the car, a coolant hose (it's about midnight and I couldn't see very well, so I certainly hope it is just a hose) bursts freaking my wife out cuz the engine compartment is smoking up a storm and the fluid is pouring out (probably ruined a lot of the paint too).

My wife is appalled at how much money I've spent (she knew all along that this repair cost x and this upgrade cost y, but she didn't know the total amount until recently) on a 13 year old car that has had so many parts replaced on it that much of it is new and yet, it still fails to be reliable.

Clearly I'm venting here, but this just sucks. She drives a new 9'3 and if I had more confidence in our economy and my wife and my respective positions at our jobs, I would probably try to go get a Viggen, but the job scene nationwide is too shaky to go do something like that. I know that my car has a bazillion (minor exageration, 180K) miles on it, but you'd think that after all of this, it'd want to do right by me and my wife by not breaking down or making so many clearly bizarre noises.

b.r.e.a.t.h.e..... Anyway, I'm starting to calm back down and I'll head up to some store tomorrow and get a new piece of coolant hose, some distilled water and more antifreeze and replace that piece of hose and then drive to the mechanic and get them to do their thing (fingers crossed that their are no other coolant problems (like head gasket) and that the other noises are not overly expensive.... Thank goodness I've got a great mechanic who has consistently provided me with good prices and better service or this thing would have been up for sale in the classifieds a long while ago. It may end up there anyway, but I'll keep tackling some of these problems and see if I can't get a couple of months of trouble free service out of it in a row.

Sorry for the long rant, but I'm having a helluva time convincing myself, much less my wife that this car is not a gigantic financial sink hole and that it will get better.

ugh..........
