I would have thought the wires went on the floor, but you never know. I did the same thing on my Beetle and wired it so the reverse spotlight only came on when reverse was selected and the switch was tripped. I had two reverse lights, which came on anyway in reverse and a 55W halogen spotlight for those awkward times when you need more light. In the UK you can only have 22W of white light at the rear of a vehicle. This is why I put relay and switch in.
