1988 Saab Turbo Convertible
First of all I cleaned my AIC valve out and that seems to have fixed my high idle problem. Of course something new is showing itself. I just got the alternator replaced about two weeks ago. This last Saturday I drove the car from Milwaukee to Louisville, KY. Well, I have to say that it performed perfectly even avoiding a major accident that happened in front of us. The only thing that happened is on the way back the battery light would come on from time to time. No loss of power or accessories or anything it would just come on for about few seconds and then fade out. As of today it is almost always on at startup and then seems to go away after higher RPMs are reached, but even then it comes back on once in a while after the car is all warmed up. A friend of mine thinks that it could easily be the alternator belt having stretched after replacing the alternator and adding all new belts. Does this sound reasonable? If so, how hard is it to get the belt tightened up myself? I was going to call the place that put in my alternator, but they'll probably just ask me to bring it in and I can't afford another half day from work plus repair cost. I would have more info for you if I didn't have to work everyday and when I leave it's dark and when I get home it's dark. I have to make a long trip this weekend for Thanksgiving too and I don't want to end up stranded somewhere. TIA
