You can lube the bearings, but it really isn't worth the trouble. Once they start squeaking, they're pretty much on the way out.
Getting to the motor requires complete dash removal. This is not as bad as it sounds, but budget on a whole day if it's your first time. Label *everything*. Once the dash is apart, replacing the motor is cake.
BTW, don't believe anyone who says the motor can be replaced through the speaker grille. It just isn't possible.
