Hi Doug:

The clatterring noise came on a few days before the oil light came on.
From what the mechanic told me, there was an adjustement
problem in the pump rotors which made it unable to build
up enough pressure. The whole thing should be fixed now but cost
$1400 which seems huge, not to mention the small regular
clattering noise -it is more like a load tac-tac-tac...

Now what about the smoke? Could this be coolant leaking from
a bad water gasket, or from the turbo? I would like
to believe that it is not the sign of a blown engine.
