You know, it beats the snot out of me. But here's my tale of woe:
Had a dash in my '80 5-door. Cracked to hell, decided to take it out and play around and see if I could repair it. Had no luck, chucked the dash since I had that spare. Got it out of storage, tried to install it and FAILED. Not only was it curved incorrectly, but sat a solid 1-2" too HIGH in the car - the screw holes under the speaker grilles weren't even close to the brackets on the body.
I was upset, but thought maybe sitting uninstalled for so long it may have been warped or something. I took the dash OUT of my '90 SPG since it had a few cracks and I wanted to remove the radio, cruise control, and alarm anyway it seemed like a reasonable idea. Took that dash out, SAME PROBLEM.
I went to the wrecking yard and had them look up parts from the interchange book. Sure enough, it says, -'84 and '84- are different. So now I have some jacked-up dash from an '81 900T in my 5-door and it looks worse than the original. *sigh* But it was the only -'84 dash I could find in town. I paid $30 for this POS!!!!
Man, that was a bad day in Saabland for me.
