While replacing the tie rod ends, I followed the directions in the Bentley manual and first removed the lock nut. I used two wrenches, one on the lock nut and the other on the tie rod end, to get the nut loosened. Due to the amount of rust, the nut never loosened but the whole tie rod started to turn. I replaced the tie rod end and screwed it to where the lock nut never moved, and finished tightening everything down. After finishing this on the passenger side, the same exact thing happened on the driver side with the whole tie rod turning with the locking nut in the same position. I've been driving the car and everything seems ok until this morning when the car seemed to float a little. I stopped and everything was still connected, and the steering went back to normal after 2 miles. Did I damage something on the inner side of the tie rod? Is this just a problem with the alignment? Thanks for your help.
