Without the little plaque, it would be tough to tell whether or not this is a SiS '88 or the results of someone's extreme efforts to make it look like one. Suck's to think someone might have yanked it off as a souvenier.
Looking at my "Saab 1988 Body and Interior Colors" brochure, the black 900 Turbo convertibles were only offered with Sierra Tan Leather interior, so that bodes well for your's being a 1988 SiS edition.
Like true SPG's, there's no Badging on the passenger side of the trunk, and no Turbo emblem on the front grille. The interior is "Buffalo Grey" (very dark grey) leather. My car, and the only other SIS I've seen up close, both were pre-wired for a car phone in the exact same manner. Coincidence, perhaps, but check the passenger-side "A" pillar and front windshield for evidence of a coax cable and/or antenae, and check the lift-up area in the trunk for the same coax cable and a multi-wire telephone-style wire with plug (sim. to modular wall jack plug).
Odd's are, if someone wanted to put on ground effects, similar to those on SPG's, they probably would have bought the aftermarket aero package, which has the fog lights incorporated within the front air-dam/spoiler assembly. On SPGs and the SiS's, the fog lights hung below the front bumper and in front of the air-dam.
I would assume our cars would have been made on the same assembly line at roughly the same time, so email me your VIN number and I'll compare it to mine (thesiegers@earthlink.net).
If you get a chance, check out the picture of John Visconti's SiS in the "Member's Gallery" right here, on Saabnet. Does it look familiar?
