These cars can last a very long time but when you are approachng the 150K mark, there might be some areas which might need fixed. By far the most expensive is the trans which is a few thousand to fix. Also there is the head gasket, timing chain, power steering rack which also might be on their way out. BEFORE you throw down the $3500. PLEASE take it to a saab mechanic! They will be able to do all the tests on the car & will be able to let you know if it's worth $8,000 or $800 :o) ESPECIALLY since you are not familiar with these cars, it will be the best $100 you will spend!
It's a great car IF it was taken care of & it does require a little more service with the turbo (mostly more oil changes) :o)
I actually went throgh high school in a 86 900s. 250K miles later & my brother still has it :o)
