I haven't done this yet but bin thinking about it. If you cut the hose off at the tank side of the nipple so thst the nipple stays in the hose and then use a short length of the rubber stuff and calmp it over the new nipple and over the line at the old nipple and butt the nipples up against each other it should work given what JohnK said.
