I had a dodgy clutch like this not long ago. All symptoms made me think clutch master cylinder - I thought that the seals were allowing some leakage (it was/is cold outside). I rebuilt the master and still had the same pedal feel. Regardless, this is a really easy $5 repair and I suggest it doing it first just to eliminate.
What ended up being my problem was a leaky slave cylinder. Not leaky enough to create a fluid leak, but the action of the slave would pull a tiny amount of air in, and when warmed up somehow purged it. A local indy had seen this once before, which affirmed my diagnosis. I replaced the whole clutch and seals while in there. Your '89 clutch kit is pretty cheap ($160 from BB sponsors) if you were to DIY.
