Have you already scoured the engine compartment for a vacuum leak? I was having problems with my tach diving to zero and nearly stalling everytime I took my foot off the gas with the clutch engaged or in neutral. I couldn't find a single hose out of place. The yesterday, while messing around with the Air Mass Meter, my friend noticed an unplugged port on the underside of the throttle body, upstream of the throttle plate, at about 5 o'clock. Sure enough it was a through hole. We plugged it up, readjusted the idle setting, and now my idle is as steady as a rock. The strange thing is, we wnet to check his 1987 SPG, and damned if the same port wasn't unplugged on his as well. It's a tough one to find if you're not looking for it.
On the other hand, if the problem you're having is an eradic idle that occasionally gets stuck up at high RPMs, test the AIC valve.
